He is a dedicated, motivated and expertly trained music professional with over 20 years of teaching and playing experience.
After obtaining a Master’s of Music in Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2003 he freelanced in many top UK Orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic and Halle orchestra.
A year later he accepted the position of second trumpet in the Macao Orchestra which he held for 8 years. Here he taught at the Macao conservatory.
In 2011 he moved to Hong Kong where he is now a core member of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong. His teaching posts include the Kellett School, Nord Anglia international school as well as having worked at the Hong Kong Academy of performing arts.
In addition to having a thorough educational and performance background I pride myself on being passionate, enthusiastic and understanding in my workplace and specialise in teaching the trumpet to students of all ages from beginner to professional level.
Born in Hong Kong, Tommy Yeung Shing Yau started playing the trumpet when he was 7 years old. With great enthusiasm for playing the trumpet, he obtained the ABRSM Trumpet Performance Diploma in 2014.
Under the tutelage of Fung Ka Hing, he graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2021. He completed the diploma and advanced diploma program and the Bachelor’s Degree in 2021.
Tommy participated in masterclasses instructed by some of the renowned trumpet players such as James Thompson, Gabor Tarkövi, Éric Aubier, and Sergei Nakariakov, and had experiences performing with various orchestras world widely, such as Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Band Directors Association, Hong Kong String Orchestra, and Gustav Mahler Orchestra.
In 2018, Tommy was selected to the Asian Youth Orchestra. He toured over ten cities in Asia, including Beijing, Tokyo, Taipei, Manila, etc. Apart from being an orchestral player, Tommy is also active as a chamber musician and trumpet tutor. He is currently teaching at various local schools.
Born in Hong Kong, Johnny Lau is a trumpet player who is currently studying at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
Johnny began studying trumpet with Benjamin Chan at the age of 14 and continued his trumpet studies with Elaine Yeung, Joseph Ngan and Fung Ka Hing.
Before his music studies, he was graduated from The University of East Anglia where he joined the UEA Symphony Orchestra as a trumpet player. After his graduation, he joined ViuTV and served as a creative writer, and participated in different TV shows production.
As an active trumpet player, he has appeared with many Hong Kong’s orchestras and concert bands including Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong, Happy Go Lucky Big Band, HKYMWO.
He has been teaching as a trumpet teacher since 2017 while also teaching at different music centres as well as primary and secondary schools.
