Winnie Yiu is a violist born in Hong Kong. Upon her graduation at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts studied with Dr. Felix Ungar, she has completed a master degree of music in 2022 with full scholarship at Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, under the tutelage of Choong-Jin Chang, the principal violist of The Philadelphia Orchestra.
Yiu is currently playing in the Hong Kong Philharmonic in the 2022/23 Season. Yiu is one of the awardees of the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme 2020/22. She has also awarded the Breguet Trey Lee Performing Arts Scholarship 2017/18, Mr. & Mrs. Y S Liu Scholarship 2019/20 and Wong Wai Ming Memorial Scholarship 2019/20 during her studies in HKAPA. Winnie has also been to Round Top Summer Festival Institute 2018 and played under the baton of maestro Carl St. Clair, Charles Olivieri-Munroe, Yaniv Dinur, Michelle Merrill, Vladimir Kulenovic, etc. In 2019 summer, she has participated in Kent Blossom Music Festival, where she played in a side-by-side concert with the Cleveland Orchestra. Yiu has played in masterclass by Paul Neubauer, Richard O’Neill, Jordan Bak, German Clavijo, Brett Deubner, Lawrence Wheeler, and Orion Quartet. She has also received guidance from Ivo-Jan van der Werff, Scott Lee, Wesley Collins, Stanley Konopka, Lynne Ramsey, Steven Tenenbom, Susan Dubois, Máté Szűcs, Honggang Li.
Yiu is currently a freelance musician of several ensembles. She has eight years of teaching experience as a private tutor and group class teacher. Besides being as a performer and teacher, Yiu is currently the judge of Hong Kong Youth Cup International Music Contest.

Lesson Booking Procedure: | |
1. | Submit student information; The tutor will respond according to the information.Messages between student/tutor will be screenshotted or forwarded through M5 Music.* |
2. | Discuss and arrange the lesson time, location, tuition fee, etc. |
3. | The lesson will be confirmed after completing the payment of the Tuition of the First Lesson. |
4. | Take the lesson according to the booking time. |
5. | The second lesson and beyond are arranged by the student/tutor themselves. |

Before student/parent makes payment: | |
i. | Some tutors do NOT accept direct contact. |
ii. | Some tutors will call student/parent with a “Hidden Number”.* |
iii. | Some tutors accept to contact student/parent through various ways.* |
* | After contacting the tutor, if the student/parent intends to take a lesson, the tuition of the first lesson has to be paid to M5 Music before having lesson. |
The tuition of the first lesson is charged by M5 Music (accept Bank Transfer or FPS); Students do NOT need to pay additional fee for the first lesson.
Starting from the second lesson, please pay tuition directly to the tutor. Generally, four lessons will be calculated as one session. Please check with your tutor about the payment method for the second lesson and beyond.
Student’s absent must be proposed 24 hours before the lesson time. Otherwise, it will be regarded as “Impromptu Absence”. Providing a make-up lesson or not will be decided by the tutor him/herself. Hereby declare, M5 Music will NOT provide refund for “Impromptu Absence” even if the tutor does not want to provide a make-up lesson.
If the first lesson is affected by typhoon and rainstorm warning, M5 Music can assist both parties to reschedule the lesson.
We only provide a refund if the tutor is absent on the original booking time, and cannot provide a make-up lesson for the next 14 days. Apart from this, we do not accept any refund request.
